Homes evacuated after liquid oxygen tank leak at NUMC

Several homes were evacuated today after a minor leak in a liquid oxygen tank on the property outside of Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC).

According to police, workers were performing routine maintenance on the 11,000-gallon tank when a valve broke.

A limited evacuation took place on Clearmeadow Drive, behind where the tank is located, as a precaution. Officials say the leak posed no danger to patients or employees at the hospital.
