Businesses could take costly hit from Hurricane Irene

Some Long Island businesses owners say their bottom lines are going to take a wallop this weekend, regardless of how hard Hurricane Irene hits.

In Riverhead and Jamesport, owners of area bed and breakfasts, hotels and restaurants say they're already receiving cancellations as Labor Day weekend approaches, and that the change in travel plans could cost them millions.

East End farmers also warn that hurricane winds could ruin their corn and other late-summer vegetable crops, also costing them millions of dollars in damage. Gov. Cuomo declares state of emergency in NY
