LIRR to stop running at noon Today

The Long Island Rail Road will activate a systemwide shutdown at noon today in preparation for Hurricane Irene.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) ordered all Metropolitan Transportation Authority services come to a halt, including New York City subways, the Metro-North and Access-A-Ride.

Officials say service may not be restored until sometime Monday.
