Irene batters Northeast with high winds, heavy rain
Although forecasters say Irene has weakened, that doesn't mean she's to be taken lightly by any means.
The storm, now a tropical storm, tore through the East Coast Saturday and left millions without power. It is also being blamed for eight deaths in four states.
The National Hurricane Center said at 9:00 a.m. EDT that the huge storm made landfall in Coney Island with top sustained winds of 65-mph.
The center says a hurricane warning remains in effect from coastal Virginia northward to Sagamore Beach, Mass.
