FEMA approves additional 10 counties to receive federal assistance

? South Shore residents saw the worst flooding after Irene barreled through the area yesterday. Gov. Andrew Cuomo toured the damage in Long Beach with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano yesterday evening. Cuomo said FEMA approved an additional 10 counties to receive federal assistance. Nassau and Suffolk counties were included in the initial declaration. Cuomo also said National Guard troops will stay in Nassau County and Long Beach over the next few days to help in the cleanup efforts. The floodwaters are receding in some South Shore communities. The Great South Bay barreled over docks and bulkheads onto South Ocean Avenue in Patchogue yesterday. Last night the waterline was at some front doors. Officials say the floodwaters are full of raw sewage and oil.
