East Meadow man charged in air gun accident

Police say an East Meadow man is facing several charges after he unintentionally fired an air gun at a teen, injuring him.

Authorities say Jonathan Ryan, 22, accidentally fired the air pistol at Danny Pflaumer, 15, who suffered a serious injury to his left eye. The incident happened last Friday outside a 7-Eleven in North Bellmore.

Ryan was arrested last night and prosecutors alleged in court today that he fired the shot that penetrated Pflaumer's eye and lodged in his brain.

According to police reports Ryan initially lied about the incident claiming that Pflaumer shot himself in the eye. They say Ryan later recanted that story and said he shot the victim accidentally and then ditched the gun in a sewer.

Ryan faces charges of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and making a false written statement.

He is being held on $60,000 bond and is due back in court on July 15.
