Teen critical after being struck by train in Bellport

MTA officials say a teenager is in critical condition after being struck by a westbound train in Bellport.

Authorities say the 14-year-old boy was hit at around 4:30 p.m. yesterday by a train from Montauk destined for Jamaica. He was taken to Stony Brook Medical Center for treatment.

Residents say they are surprised this hasn't happened before since there are no gates or fencing protecting the tracks in that area.

Suffolk police also arrested another boy for throwing rocks at cars near the Bellport train station. Sources tell News 12 Long Island that the boy arrested was with the boy who had been struck by the train.

MTA police say they have not made any arrests in the case.
