Port Jefferson residents demand road repairs

A dozen Port Jefferson families are calling on the Town of Brookhaven to get back to work on a half-finished repaving project in their neighborhood.

According to homeowners on Union Street, the town tore up one side of the road in the fall, then returned last month and tore up the rest. They say the work has left their outdoor furniture and patios covered in dust, and the road is still unpaved.

Brookhaven Highway Superintendent John Rouse says by next Friday, there will be up to 3 inches of asphalt down on the road. He says the project was delayed because of preparations, and that it takes time to do the job right.
