Cops: Man fatally shoots ex-girlfriend, then himself

Police say they are investigating a murder-suicide that happened early this morning in Bay Shore.

According to authorities, 27-year-old Jason Jenkins stormed into an apartment on Spruce Street where his ex-girlfriend was staying at around 1 a.m. They say he was armed with a shotgun and began arguing over visitation rights for the couple's 3-month-old daughter.

Police say Jenkins then opened fire, killing 26-year-old Santia Williams and then himself. The baby, along with Williams' 4-year-old daughter and her sister's 12-year-old son, were all inside the apartment at the time, but were not harmed.

Officials say Williams had moved into the apartment with her sister shortly after separating from Jenkins. Her sister was also home during the shooting and broke her leg jumping from a second-floor window to escape the building.

News 12 Long Island has learned that police had been called at least four times in the past three months to break up fights between the couple. Williams had also gotten an order of protection against Jenkins four days ago.
