Potholes on stretch of Hempstead Turnpike east of Wantagh Ave. steering drivers away from area
Many drivers are avoiding a major stretch of Hempstead Turnpike because they say potholes are ruining their cars.
The state Department of Transportation says it will begin accepting bids to completely resurface the stretch of road east of Wantagh Avenue later this year.
A spokesperson adds, "In addition, the New York state DOT maintenance forces have been out there, and will continue to address the potholes along NY-24 until the resurfacing project has been awarded."
A member of the Levittown Chamber of Conference told News 12 he's concerned that the road's rough patch could stand in the way of sales for small businesses in the area.
