Saving the planet – one water bottle at a time
It's time to think green! First up, kick the habit of buying plastic water bottles. While they might be handy, the bottles really add up and hurt the environment.
Environmentalists say for every six water bottles we use, only one makes it in to the recycling bin. Those other five end up in landfills. According to Food and Water Watch, bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste a year.
The group also says that one plastic bottle will take more than 450 years to completely break down. Some even say the water in the bottle might not even be any safer or cleaner than water from the faucet at home.
The environmental group Ban the Bottle says that in one year, the disposable plastic water bottles from the U.S. that we use could fill almost 850,000 school buses!
Environmentalists say making the switch to tap water not only saves money, but also helps save the planet!
