A bus driver was honored today for saving his students earlier this year.
On Jan. 9, Ed Gross' bus stopped on the train tracks in Lindenhurst. Unable to move the bus, he managed to get all 35 middle school students off to safety.
A student says Gross calmly stayed on the bus until every student was off. News 12 is told that strangers then helped to move the bus off of the tracks.
Gross was honored by town, county and state officials for his heroism at today's Opening Day ceremony for the Lindenhurst's Little League at Babylon Town Hall.
He was presented with a Good Samaritan award from the Little League, and April 13 was proclaimed "Hero Ed Gross Day" in the Town of Babylon.
Gross called the honor "absolutely overwhelming."
