Long Island residents claim New York Lottery winnings totaling $16 million
A few lucky Long Island residents are in a new tax bracket after playing the New York Lottery and hitting it rich.
The biggest jackpot of $13 million went to Seaford couple John and Sharon Ventrice. They say their son purchased two tickets for $10 each at the Citgo on Hicksville Road in Plainview last month.
As part of a sales promotion, he also brought two Quick Picks home to his dad. Ventrice says he scratched off the numbers and couldn't believe when he learned in seconds that he was a millionaire.
The three other winners all won $1 million each and bought their tickets in West Babylon, Valley Stream and Mount Sinai respectively. They all opted for the lump sum payout.
