A new effort is underway to raise awareness about the high suicide rate among veterans.

The nonprofit Cow Harbor Warriors kicked off a 22-week awareness campaign this week, which will culminate at the Cow Harbor Warrior Weekend.

The weekend is filled with fishing trips, runs and other activities for veterans suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries.

"We can help them, maybe go back and do some of the things they did before they went off,"' says Rocco Donnino, of Cow Harbor Warriors. "Or maybe they're in isolation and they need to get out. Or maybe, just simply that they just want to be back with a group of veterans to have a good time."

Organizers say the 22-week campaign is in recognition of the 22 veterans who take their own lives every single day in this country.
