Michael Nash accused of stealing car, crashing into Avenue Sound on East Main Street in Patchogue
Police say a stolen SUV smashed through a storefront in Patchogue Tuesday afternoon, sending customers running for their lives.
Authorities say 20-year-old Michael Nash stole a Honda Pilot from a Jiffy Lube about 2 miles from where he eventually crashed.
They say Nash led police on a high-speed chase down Route 112 before he crashed into Avenue Sound on East Main Street.
Vikas Moolchandani was standing at the counter helping two customers when he saw the SUV's headlights coming straight at him.
"We looked up and saw the car coming and we all just ran in the opposite direction," said Moolchandani. "We all got showered with glass."
Moolchandani says the SUV barreled into his building at 70 miles per hour. All six people inside the store were not injured.
Nash fled the vehicle after the crash before being apprehended by police. He faces multiple charges, including grand larceny, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment.
Police say Nash was arrested last week on two count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.
