1 hurt after oxygen tank explodes at Cousins Metal Industries in Oceanside

News 12 Long Island received calls about an explosion Tuesday afternoon at Oceanside Cousins Metal Industries, a scrap metal recycling company.

Police say a portable oxygen tank at the facility on Brown Court blew up at around 2 p.m.

The office manager at the scrapyard told News 12 that a crane operator was sorting through bulky metal just before the incident. When it picked up the tank, it exploded.

The manager says the crane operator was injured. There was no fire at the facility.
