Police: Bindo Acharya charged with DWI in wrong-way Southern State Parkway crash
Police say a man has been arrested on DWI and other charges after a wrong-way crash on the Southern State Parkway early this morning.
State police say they received a call about a driver heading the wrong way near exit 20 at around 4:25 a.m.
Police say a white Chevrolet driven by 27-year-old Bindo Acharya crashed into a gray Lexus. The driver and passenger of the Lexus were taken to Mercy Hospital for injuries to their legs and face, police say.
Troopers stay Acharya was acting erratically, had blood-shot eyes and impaired speech, and smelled strongly of alcohol. He refused to provide a breath sample.
Acharya is facing charges of driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, and other vehicle and traffic charges.
The identities of the victims in the Lexus were not released.
