The family of a man killed in a hit-and-run in Central Islip is making a plea for justice.
As News 12 has reported, Milton Maldonado was run down and left to die on Church Street one year ago. He was homeless, but well-known to local residents for working at a laundromat. Friends say he struggled with alcoholism, and he couldn't get the help he needed.
Carnia Cruz says her brother's death has caused a year of pain and wondering. "We've heard nothing, no one has given us answers," she says. "We want the person to know we think about him every day."
The family has constructed a new memorial at the accident site to remind the community Maldondo's case is still open.
Suffolk police say there are no leads or suspects in the case.
Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
