Suffolk Legislator Robert Trotta makes push to require businesses, hotels to install Direct 911

One Suffolk lawmaker is making a push to make sure precious time isn't wasted when someone calls 911.
Legislator Robert Trotta has proposed legislation that will require businesses and hotels to install Direct 911 dialing.
"We have come across hotels that have a variety of ways to contact emergency personnel, a button you push, and all it does is call the front desk," he says.
Other hotels require the caller to dial "9" first.
Trotta says the change amounts to a software update with a cost usually less than $200.
The legislation will go before a committee and then be placed on the schedule for a public hearing within the next few months.
