President of Adelphi University announces retirement
(AP) The president of Adelphi University has announced plans to retire next year.
Dr. Robert A. Scott said Wednesday that he will retire effective July 1, 2015. He was appointed in 2000.
The college in Garden City, on Long Island, said it has started a nationwide search for a successor.
A statement from the university says Scott will continue to serve as a professor of anthropology and sociology. He'll also have the title of president emeritus.
He says in the statement that under his leadership, Adelphi's endowment has tripled to over $160 million and its undergraduate enrollment has grown by 63 percent.
The university has an enrollment of about 6,000 full-time graduate and undergraduate students.
