3 LIers arrested in Freedom Tower BASE jump
Police say three Long Islanders are among four charged in a BASE jumping stunt from the top of the Freedom Tower in Manhattan.
The four men, which included three jumpers and a lookout, allegedly sneaked through a hole in a fence on the Freedom Tower grounds.
The jumpers have been identified as James Brady, 32, of Kings Park, Marko Markovich, 27, of Lake Ronkonkoma, and Andrew Rossig, 33, from upstate Slate Hill. The lookout man has been identified as Kyle Hartwell, 29, of East Patchogue.
New video of the actual jump taken by one of the men has been posted on YouTube. In the video, Brady falls 105 stories to the ground from the building. The seven- to eight-second free fall from the nation's tallest skyscraper was caught on his GoPro camera. Officials say the video is now being used against the men for the September incident.
The men were arrested yesterday after a five-and-a-half-month investigation by police. They were arraigned and charged with burglary, trespassing and reckless endangerment.
If convicted on all charges, they face up to seven years in prison.
