A historic fireboat may lose its home in Greenport.
Fire Fighter, a fireboat commissioned in 1938, was once considered to be the latest and greatest in the FDNY's fleet.
The boat, which now has National Historic Landmark status, may have to be moved because the village and the county claim a museum group hasn't met certain criteria to keep the boat in Greenport.
Greenport Mayor David Nyce says the vessel still hasn't been fully inspected to make sure it won't sink or leak fuel, causing damage to the water and shellfish beds.
Museum director Charlie Ritchie says the group just doesn't have the money to do that yet, but he says the boat has insurance, a plan in case of a storm, and a local crew that can move the boat.
The group has 11 days to find a new home for the craft.
