Off-duty cop assists in arrest of 4 suspected thieves in Holbrook
An off-duty Suffolk County police officer is being credited for helping his fellow officers catch four suspected thieves in Holbrook.
Police say Ryan Dayton, Jonathan Farinella, Frank Defilipo and Jeffrey Merritt stole power tools Tuesday afternoon from the Home Depot on Farber Drive in Bellport. Officer Martin Gill was called and took the report.
On his way home, officials say Gill spotted an SUV matching the suspects' vehicle. Gill called for backup and the four suspects were arrested and charged with grand larceny.
Detectives are attempting to determine if the suspects are responsible for additional thefts from other home improvement stores.
