Sebastian Barba pleads guilty to 2001 hit-and-run in Westbury
A man who admitted to running down an 80-year-old woman and then fleeing the country has pleaded guilty.
Sebastian Barba admitted to running down Jean Renison on Post Avenue and Maple Avenue in Westbury back in February 2001.
In a Mineola courtroom Tuesday in front of Renison's family and the detective on the case, Barba admitted he was the driver.
"I drove my car and I hit a lady and I drove over her and I ran away," said Barba.
Defense attorney John Kase says Barba was young and frightened so he fled to Ecuador where he has dual citizenship.
Barba is expected to get 12 years for assault and up to four years for leaving the scene, which will be served concurrently.
