Wage freeze deal reached for Nassau County police officers; talks continue for other county workers

A deal has been reached between county officials, NIFA and the Nassau police officers' union to end the county's wage freeze for police officers after three years.
Talks are continuing for the wage freeze affecting other county workers.
The deal stipulates that new police officers must pay into their pensions and health care costs. Current officers will also face some decreases and delays for some of their raises.
However, Nassau PBA President James Carver heralded the deal as a step in the right direction. He says his union should be able to vote and ratify the agreement by the end of the month.
The leader of Nassau's civil service union is also in talks to unthaw the yearslong wage freeze. The head of the union told News 12 that he expected a similar deal this weekend.
