State Sen. Phil Boyle holds Common Core focus group discussion for students

Young students voiced their opinions on Common Core today at a focus group discussion hosted by state Sen. Phil Boyle.
The discussion was held at Suffolk Community College's Brentwood campus.
"Nobody knows more about the Common Core than the students themselves," says Boyle.
The students talked about how the added homework, additional tests and new style of learning have created a challenge for them.
"We already were struggling and now we're struggling even more," said Alexis Trovato, a Lindenhurst eighth-grader who is in inclusion classes to provide extra support periods for difficult material.
The state Assembly just passed a bill to delay the use of Common Core assessment results for teachers and principals. The bill is in the hands of the state Senate. Boyle says he hopes to take some of the comments he heard today to the Senate floor.
