A Massapequa mother is accused of covering for the man who allegedly raped her 11-year-old daughter.
Investigators say 31-year-old Alexis Davis is charged with hindering prosecution. They say her 30-year-old husband, Dwayne Richards, is accused of raping Davis' young daughter in early 2013.
When authorities learned of the alleged sexual assault, they say Richards fled the state, while Davis refused to help investigators by not allowing her child to give a DNA sample. Police say she would not help them find Richards, then skipped town with the child and fled to Georgia.
While there, detectives say Davis continued to allow Richards to have access to the girl.
Richards was eventually arrested in Florida last month, and Davis was arrested this week in Georgia. She was taken back to Long Island to be arraigned.
In court today, Davis' attorney said she is a mother of five who works as a nurse's assistant and has no previous criminal history. She was ordered held without bail and was instructed not to have any contact with the victim.
Police say the young victim in the case is staying with relatives out of state.
Davis is due back in court later this week.
