Swan population saved by NY animal lovers
A reprieve has been granted for swans living across Long Island.
As News 12 has reported, the Department of Environmental Conservation drafted plans to wipe out the state's mute swan population by destroying nests, puncturing eggs and gassing swans living on public lands.
They say the birds are aggressive and harming the habitat of domestic waterfowl.
The DEC has withdrawn the plan in favor of revisions after animal lovers wrote 16,000 letters in protest.
