Plan to build air stripping tower near Roslyn Estates well has community upset
Many Town of Hempstead residents are upset with a plan to put a 30-foot air stripping tower near a well in Roslyn Estates.
They say the tower will shoot contaminants from well water into the air they breathe and jeopardize their health.
As News 12 has reported, that well was shut down last year after increasing levels of Freon were discovered in the water. Officials with the Roslyn Water District say that tower will remove the chemical from the water and disperse it into the air.
The Roslyn Water District is asking the town board to approve a $20 million bond before the project can move forward. Water district officials say they've met with the Department of Health, which reported that the tower poses no health hazards.
If the town board approves the $20 million bond, it would take the water district about a year to build the tower.
