A young artist is using her talents to brighten and lift spirits of cancer patients on Long Island.

Heather Buggee started Splashes of Hope in 1996, after the death of a good friend. Her nonprofit group is dedicated to transform and facilitate healing through art. Members have painted murals and other artistic projects at medical and social service facilities around the world.

Splashes of Hope has been working at the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Center at Stony Brook University Cancer Center for the past six years.

"The patients inspire us to do what we do," says Buggee. "If there is anything we can do to alleviate the pain...Some of the nurses tell us it alleviates crying and fear."
