Amid a trying winter season, public works officials in the Town of Oyster Bay say they had enough salt for Saturday's snowfall.

Town of Oyster Bay Highway Commissioner Kevin Hanitan told News 12 that although the supply has been stretched thin, trucks were loaded up and dispatched to de-ice roadways.

The Town of Oyster Bay allocated $1.8 million to snow removal efforts in its budget this year.

Hanitan says they have been lucky to have snow hit mostly on weekdays, when crew members are on the clock.

The heavy snowfall this winter has meant big business at hardware stores and grocery stores across Nassau County. A total of 400 bags of ice melt were sold out in three hours Saturday at Costello's Ace Hardware in Levittown. Grocery stores report seeing a boom of customers in the past month as shoppers have been stocking up on supplies.
