'Miracle' dog adopted after being left in dumpster at West Islip gas station

After being left for dead, one lucky dog has a new owner and a new home.
Surveillance cameras captured a man dropping a large plastic bag into a dumpster at a West Islip gas station on Christmas Eve.
The dog who was in that plastic bag ate her way through a plastic container and the garbage bag. She was discovered barely alive by a homeless man.
The dog, renamed "Miracle," was nursed back to health at the Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center. After Miracle was spayed and received her shots, she was ready to be adopted. There were several applicants but Hazel Wagner and her daughter Hazel had the highest qualifying scores of all the applicants.
"I saw her picture in the paper and her eyes just got to me," says Wagner. "We had just lost one dog about a year and a half before. "
