LIRR: Service restored between Port Jefferson, Huntington after train strikes vehicle
A train struck an unauthorized vehicle on the tracks west of Greenlawn station earlier today.
The diesel train hit a car after the driver mistakenly thought the tracks were a road. The driver was stuck on the rails, but was able to get out of the car before the collision.
Witnesses think the heavy snow and poor visibility are to blame.
There were about 500 passengers on the train at the time of the accident. No one was injured.
Long Island Rail Road service has been restored on the Port Jefferson Branch.
