A new breast cancer study is reviving the debate over the value of mammograms.

The Canadian National Breast Screening Study claims annual mammograms do not lower the risk of dying of breast cancer. The study followed 90,000 women over 25 years, with only half receiving annual mammograms. The study concluded the death rates were basically the same in both groups. 

Some women say the study is making them rethink the best way to take care of themselves. Others, including Adelphi Breast Cancer Program Director Hillary Rutter, disagree with the findings.

"I still believe that mammograms save lives," says Rutter. "It just seems counterintuitive to me to say that you don't want to catch breast cancer early on so that you can treat it."
