Smithtown Supervisor Pat Vecchio, Councilwoman Lynne Nowick ousted over technicality
After three decades in office, Smithtown's supervisor is officially ousted over a technicality.
An attorney reaffirmed the town clerk's memo Tuesday that Town Supervisor Pat Vecchio and Councilwoman Lynne Nowick have been removed from office.

The move comes after both officials failed to sign and file an oath of office within 30 days of winning the election.
Vecchio has held his position for over 35 years, longer than anyone in the state. He says officials never brought the papers to him for signing.
Vecchio and Nowick say the clerk is playing petty politics, and that he should have alerted them the paperwork was due. Smtithtown Clerk Vince Puleo told News 12 that after three decades as an elected official, he didn't think Vecchio needed to be reminded to sign the routine paperwork. He says the oath of office is signed by every elected official after they are sworn into office.
A special meeting will be held in Smithtown Thursday night about the issue.
