Police searching for Hempstead Turnpike hit-and-run driver who left teen for dead

Authorities are searching for the driver who slammed into a 14-year-old girl yesterday and left her for dead in Levittown. Theresa Vargas was struck while crossing Hempstead Turnpike at Shelter Lane.

Police searching for Hempstead Turnpike hit-and-run driver who left teen for dead
Authorities are searching for the driver who slammed into a 14-year-old girl yesterday and left her for dead in Levittown.
Theresa Vargas was struck while crossing Hempstead Turnpike at Shelter Lane. She was thrown through the air and struck by two other automobiles, whose drivers remained at the scene.
Vargas suffered two broken legs, a fractured wrist and a fractured back. Nassau police say she is lucky to be alive, though.
Police are combing the area looking for a tan four-door car with front-end damage. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
