Smithtown native John Daly vies for Olympic medal in skeleton racing at Sochi Olympics

The 22nd Winter Olympics are set to begin in Sochi and one Long Islander hopes to bring home a gold medal.

John Daly, of Smithtown, will compete as a skeleton racer for the United States.

While Smith placed 17th in the 2010 Olympics, he is hopeful for greater success this year.

"I'm a much better athlete now," he says. "If I had to race my 24-year-old self, I'd beat the pants off him."
