A closed-door meeting was held Tuesday morning to discuss the installation of high-power transmission lines in the Village of East Hampton.

PSEG Long Island recently installed new utility poles, which are taller than the ones they are replacing, on the residential streets of the village. Officials say the taller poles are more storm-resistant and are capable of carrying more power to neighborhoods in the South Fork.

Residents upset with the new poles met with PSEG officials Tuesday morning at Village Hall to request that the power lines be buried. They say the taller poles would be able to reach their homes if one were to fall during a powerful storm.

They also say East Hampton would also be prone to more lightning strikes.

Utility officials say they will consider the requests. No decisions have been made to bury the power lines.
