East End deer culling plan scaled back

The East End deer culling plan will now be done on a smaller scale.

The deer cull was originally supposed to kill up to 3,000 deer.

The USDA tells Newsday about 1,000 mostly female deer will be shot.

The move is taking place because only two communities are involved: the Village of East Hampton and Town of Southold.

Both animal rights groups and hunters oppose the cull set for next month.
