Officials say they have arrested two young men from Melville in connection to a string of bank robberies on Long Island.
According to police, Adam Baron, 18, and Jaime Ramirez, 25, were charged with nine counts of robbery in the second degree.
Police say the duo held up banks in Westbury, Rockville Centre, North Bellmore, Plainview, Merrick and Farmingdale and two in Suffolk County.
According to police, the banks they targeted were Chase, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, TD Bank, and Roslyn Savings Bank.
Police tell News 12 Ramirez was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation Thursday morning.
Investigators say Ramirez and Baron committed crimes to support a heroin habit. They were arrested in Suffolk County after Crime Stoppers received a tip.
A judge set bail for Ramirez at $2 million. Baron's bail was set at $1.5 million. They are both due back in court on Feb. 3.
Police say January has seen 12 bank robberies in Suffolk County and 11 in Nassau County.
