The FBI is reportedly investigating Suffolk County's police chief.
Newsday says that the feds are trying to determine whether Suffolk County Chief of Department James Burke violated the civil rights of suspect Christopher Loeb.
Loeb, 26, allegedly stole a gun belt, ammunition and handcuffs from Burke's SUV last December.
When Loeb was taken to the police station, his mother claims Burke hit her son in the stomach while the two were alone.
Burke has denied any wrongdoing.
