Police officer injured in crash on LIE

Police say an officer was injured after her patrol car was hit on the Long Island Expressway Friday night.

They say a 62-year-old woman crashed her SUV into the back of the police cruiser in the westbound lanes at Exit 53.

The officer had her lights on and was traveling slowly to close down the road for overnight construction at the time of the crash.

Authorities say the injuries the officer suffered are not life-threatening.

The driver in the SUV was issued summonses.
