26-year-old hospitalized in N. Amityville shooting

A shooting on Madison Avenue in North Amityville sent a 26-year-old man to the hospital Monday evening and put neighbors on edge.

Police say the victim went to Good Samaritan Hospital in a private vehicle.

Neighbor Iyesha Braithwaite says a fleet of police cars descended on the neighborhood after the 5:05 p.m. shooting.

It happened in a house where a woman and her college-aged son live, according to Braithwaite. She says the house had many visitors.

"They ain't always friends, so they find that out the hard way," Braithwaite says.

Another resident, Jay Rich, says he is friends with the victim.

"He's a real good dude," Rich says. "I'm not sure why something like this took place, but some people are evil."

Investigators spent several hours investigating at the scene, using flashlights after sunset.

Police have not yet released the victim's name or condition. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
