Man charged with DWI in Brentwood house crash
A 22-year-old man was charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after crashing into a home in Brentwood early Thursday morning.
Police say Wilber Funes crashed his 2004 Infinity inside the side of a home on Grand Boulevard around 3 a.m. Suffolk prosecutors say Funes ran a stop sign, took out a fence and ended up in the front yard of a home. They say he had a .22 blood alcohol level, nearly three times the legal limit.
Homeowner Carlos Rivera says his family was asleep at the time of the incident but that the sound of the crash woke everyone up.
The Riveras say the damage to their home is superficial and can be repaired. The homeowner had some advice for Funes.
"This shows how you can ruin your life so young," said Rivera. "Don't drink and drive. Walk it off. Walk home. Get someone to drive you home. This could have been worse."
Funes was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
