Residents: Iron Point Park turned into garbage dumping ground

Residents in Flanders say Iron Point Park has been turned into a garbage dumping ground.

While there are signs encouraging people to keep the area clean, News 12 observed 15 large garbage bags dumped by the edge of the park. Neighbors say it's not the first time it's happened.

"It's disgusting. There's kids in the neighborhood and they should all have a place to go and hang out," says Julia Schneider, of Flanders.

Behind the playground area, News 12 found an old TV and mattresses dumped in the trees.

The Town of Southampton tells News 12 that it has no record of complaints from the community about illegal dumping.

Residents say they are planning a community day in May and hope to raise money to clean up the park.
