Town of Hempstead warns residents about distracted burglaries

Officials are warning residents to be careful who they let in their front door due to an uptick in distraction burglaries.

As News 12 has reported, three men pretending to be from the water department got into a home and stole $2,000 last month in Wantagh.

Hempstead Town officials are warning residents to look for an official car on the street or for an official badge or identification card.

In addition, officials say if residents do not think something is right, they should not feel pressured to let anyone inside before calling the utility company or police.
