Dozens of rats removed from Ronkonkoma thrift store

A Ronkonkoma thrift store has a rat problem -- some found in cages but others running freely around the shop.

The Suffolk SPCA says it found domestic rats being raised in cages in the back room. Earlier in the day, officials said they had taken out between 45 and 50 rats, but were not finished removing the animals.

The store is adjacent to a restaurant and hair salon.

News 12 is told that someone from the salon reported the situation to authorities.

As a result, the Town of Brookhaven condemned the retail space and began removing rats from Long Island Picker Inc.
