Petition sent to Stony Brook Univ. to make campus a sanctuary
News 12 Long Island has learned there is a new push for sanctuary on Long Island following the uncertainty for undocumented immigrants under a president-elect Donald Trump.
A petition was sent to the heads of Stony Brook University asking to make the campus a formal sanctuary for "undocumented immigrants," their families and related community members.
The petition states it wants the university to protect community members from intimidation and deportation.
In addition, it asks for several steps to be taken, including refusing to release student and university members' immigration status to authorities.
