Police: Husband arrested after stabbing wife to death in Bethpage
Police say a Bethpage man who killed his wife at home led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a fiery crash and an altercation with officers at a Brooklyn gas station.
Police say Robert Crumb, 44, stabbed his wife to death inside their home on Seitz Drive in Bethpage.
The couple's 12-year-old son made the 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. Officers say Maria Crumb was dead in a bedroom when they arrived and that Robert Crumb had fled the scene. Police say the couple's 16-year-old daughter suffered stab wounds as she tried to defend her mother.
Police say they spotted Crumb's car on the Southern State Parkway about 10 minutes later and that he led officers on a high-speed chase that ended at a Citgo in Brooklyn. Surveillance video shows Crumb's Hyundai slamming into a gas pump and another car before bursting into flames.
The video then shows Crumb exit the vehicle and charge at Nassau police officers. One of those officers sustained a head injury and another sustained a wrist injury.
Police say they had been called to the home back in March for an argument. One neighbor, who didn't want to appear on camera, says she's heard about domestic violence issues at the home.
