NYPD: Loud boom was military aircraft flying overhead

According to the NYPD's Twitter account, the sound of an explosion heard in Queens and Nassau County was two military F-22 aircraft flying over the area.

News 12 was receiving calls from residents along the South Shore of Nassau County about hearing the loud boom before 2:30 p.m.

As News 12 has reported, in January a Navy fighter jet set off a sonic boom, which was heard across Long Island.

In March, another mystery boom was heard by people in Lindenhurst, Copiague, Babylon and West Islip.
